KINDERGARTEN PROGRAMS FOR 2017/2018
Marigold, Fairy Bells and Hollyhocks Senior Kindergarten
The Calgary Waldorf School Kindergarten provides a gentle transition into a more structured learning environment. The Kindergarten teacher works to create a warm and safe environment. Each day and week provide an ordered, gentle and dependable rhythm.
At this age, children learn by doing. The teacher and assistant engage in domestic, practical and artistic activities which the children imitate readily: baking, carpentry, painting, crafts, singing, dancing, outdoor play and celebrating festivals to mark the change of seasons.
Purposeful tasks such as preparing snacks, caring for the room and gardening help the children develop an awareness of working on behalf of a group. Children are also taught to play cooperative games, respect boundaries and follow directions. Regular storytelling enhances their capacity to listen and comprehend.
A sense of reverence and gratitude is woven through all of the daily experiences in a Waldorf Kindergarten.
In the Kindergarten, the seeds of science and the humanities begin. By stimulating the imagination, cultivating a sense of wonder and developing an enthusiasm for work, Kindergarten prepares young children for intellectual learning in the years ahead
