Bringing joy, wonder, and reverence

It takes a village to raise a child, and within our village there is a vibrant and inclusive community of faculty, administration, families, and students who come from all walks of life. Our students emerge from their classroom journeys as resilient, socially-aware humans who find true joy in learning—and with their spark of curiosity intact. We equip them with the necessary skills to navigate an unpredictable future by championing concepts like quiet confidence, a mastery of skills, and a sustained interest in the world around them.

At Waldorf, there is always something to celebrate, and the year is punctuated with festivals, assemblies, and events that bring the whole community together. Parents are integral to a lot of our programming, and lifelong friendships are forged.

Festivals

Festival of Courage

Possibly the most loved and universally celebrated Waldorf festival, the Festival of Courage (Michaelmas) rings in the new season with a story of St. George taming the Dragon. Symbolically, the Festival of Courage asks us to bring the fire and energy of summer and transform it into sustenance for the colder months ahead. Just as our cellars would fill with canned goods and root vegetables during harvest, we bring the energy of a dragon within us to steel ourselves for the work of autumn and to warm us as the frost descends.

Festival of Light

At the beginning of December students, staff, and parents come together to walk the winter spiral, and kindle the inner light that glows within us all. Every Monday in December, students across the grades gather to celebrate the darkness and share the light.

Begins December 2, 2024

Midwinter Festival

In February we gather in anticipation of longer days, new growth and beginnings. We celebrate the qualities of both light and dark, for we cannot truly have one without the other. We may start dreaming of the Spring to come but we must also remind ourselves that all things have a proper rhythm. The seeds underground and the sap frozen in the trees still need time to slowly wake to bring forward their truest form. On this evening, a story is shared followed by a lantern walk, and concludes in song around a campfire sharing tea, cookies, and community.

Mayfest

Our annual Mayfest celebration is a festive occasion where our school community, family, and friends all come together in celebration of the splendour of spring, seasonal traditions, and the approaching school-year-end. Class 4 performs the maypole dance to kick-off the festivities.
